Second Harvest Food bank
Teaming up with Second Harvest Food Bank makes walking and knocking on doors more valuable than building my business and making people aware of my services. So when I received a check for $100 at my office written to Second Harvest I was more thrilled than when I receive my commission checks. So I matched the sum. Together that amount fed 400 meals to families in need in the bay area.
Did you know that one in four people in the Santa Clara and San Mateo counties are or will be at risk for hunger? That’s higher than the national average and that is due partly to the cost of housing and food here in the bay area.
Second Harvest Food Bank made a commitment to solve that problem. There are now two fantastic warehouses in Santa Clara alone. Acting like a giant Costco they allow families to come and get groceries once monthly and feed seniors in the area as well as other methods by delivering food including fresh produce. Ultimately that means more people will be able to stay in their homes because their basic needs have been met.
I grew up in one of the most affluent places in California so imagine my amazement when I learned that a woman at my old veterinary hospital wanted to euthanize her dog because they were both freezing to death in their car. On SSI she had bought prescription dog food for years and was a great customer. She had been displaced by families who had lost her home and was unable to get back into the system. The next day I got her back into a home and we housed her pet for free for 2 weeks until she could recover. This is community and the values I uphold.
